Background & Results

Sierra’s beginnings date back to the year 1962, when Mr Ben Sacco founded Sierra International Machinery, with head office in Bakersfield, California (USA). This first company was in charge of both processing scrap metal and selling machines for processing scrap metal at the same time.

The sale of machines for processing scrap metal soon became very successful, making Sierra International Machinery open up to the European market. This is how the European division of Sierra International Machinery was born, in charge of the Managing Director and Sales Manager Marco Garuti, coming from Lollini, a Bolognese leading company in the sector of balers for scrap metal.

The company continued the rapid expansion process by extending its activity all over the world with constant growth in terms of number of machines sold, sales revenue and profits, which generated the need for a larger organisation of the structure. Therefore, in 2001, the Sierra Europe Recycling Ltd. holding was born, with head office in Dublin. From Sierra Europe Recycling Ltd., the company Sierra Europe Srlu was founded as operating subsidiary with registered office in Ferrara.

From that time forth, the Company has experienced an exponential growth in its sales revenue and profits, building a network of dealers and agents in more than 20 countries, and with commercial presence in over 60 markets all over the world.

The year 2004 was another important moment for Sierra due to the acquisition of Lollini International’s know-how and the subsequent foundation of New Lollini International.

Moreover, in 2009, Sierra Europe inaugurated the prestigious Operating Unit in Ferrara with its first showroom for presenting products and its Branch Office in Moscow.

Brief summary of the results obtained by Sierra:
  • Since 1990, Sierra has delivered more than 2500 machines all over the world, with increasing results year after year.
  • The year 2008 ended with a 60% increase for Sierra Europe with respect to the sales revenue of 2007: July of 2008 was the record month in the whole history of the Company with a sales revenue that surpassed the entire sales revenue of the year 2003.
  • The internal workforce increased more than twice its size between the years 2006 and 2008.
  • In November of 2008, the operating unit was expanded, moving to the current offices of more than 600 square metres, the warehouse area was doubled, and the showroom was opened.
